Suõmmkar

Suõmmkar is a band that combines old, Skolt Sámi traditional music (leuʹdd, katrilli) with modern world music with folk and pop influences. The band consists of Anna Lumikivi-Lemmetty and Hanna-Maaria Kiprianoff, who sing and play leudd. Suõmmkar also features Marko, Pessi and Uula Jouste, and Elias Nieminen.

Suõmmkar started performing in 2016. The band released their debut album “Suõmmkar” in August 2018 at the Ijahis idja festival in Inari, and this year we will once again enjoy the band’s album release concert.

Suõmmkar releases her new album Peäccam da Paččjokk, whose material focuses on the musical tradition of the Petsamo and Paatsjoki siida, and thus specifically on the roots of Anna and Hanna-Maaria. The album includes dance songs and leuʹdds with and without accompaniment, as well as more modern songs that draw inspiration from roots and tradition.
